History of Grama Panchayat
Avanur Panchayat, the birthplace of former Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon, is a region with a rich political heritage and historical significance, having hosted the first meeting of the Prajamandalam. The historical importance of this land is reflected in Varadiyam, associated with the history of the Virata kings, the remnants of Tipu’s military expedition, and its historical connections with the Cochin royal dynasty. Several renowned places of worship, including the Velappaya Shiva Temple, Varadiyam Ayyappankavu, and St. Antony’s Church, are located here, along with the cultural festivals associated with them.
